PREPARING FOR THE SERMON

Easter Sunday

Sunrise Service

The second part of our Easter 2024 Study will continue the “Learning from” theme. During the Sunrise Service we will be examining the denials. The most infamous denial was Peter’s threefold denial before the rooster crowed. But all of the disciples fell away to differing degrees. All of the multitudes fell away. All of praisers from Palm Sunday fell away as well.

Prepare your heart by reading the leadup to Jesus’ crucifixion. While the mood associated with denial might be somber, the reality of Easter Sunday morning is that it began with solemnity and darkness. Joy and celebration related to victory is even sweeter when the depths of despair and remorse are plumbed.

10:00 Service

The third aspect of our “Learning from” series examines the appearances. Rather than limiting ourselves to only the initial tomb encounters, we will learn from Jesus’ post resurrection ministry on Earth.

Prepare your heart by reading the accounts from when Jesus met with the women, the disciples, and the followers after He rose again.

Some things to consider this week:

  • All three of the learning from themes are designed to work together. Listen daily to the song of praise shared through our regular channels. Read the Easter Scriptures. Meditate on what Christ did and what it means for us. Imagine yourself on the road to Jerusalem, in the upper room, in the garden, at the temple and palace, at the foot of the cross.
  • Prepare also to take part in the Lord’s Supper.
