PREPARING FOR THE SERMON

March 2, 2025

Matthew 19:13-20:28

Wednesday, March 5, is designated Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Baptists often do no make much of either Ash Wednesday or Lent. This year, we are going to treat Lent similar to Advent leading up to Christmas. We will be using the predetermined period set aside as a structure to help us focus on celebrating Easter. We won’t be adopting many of the historical practices associated with Lent like giving up food or eating fish on Fridays, but we will try to make the time meaningful in a gospel appropriate way. On Sunday the second, the message will hopefully orient our hearts in that way.

To prepare, here are some questions to consider:

  • Why did Jesus die on the cross?
  • What benefits does His resurrection secure?
  • What is “the most Easter thing ever”?
  • Who do you know that celebrates Easter well?
  • Who could use a good Easter celebration?
